The world of Japanese anime is filled with an endless array of fascinating and unique characters. One of the most interesting characteristics of these beloved characters is their age – many, despite looking like young children, are several centuries old! It’s amazing to think that behind childlike faces of these characters lies a deep history and untold stories just waiting to be discovered. With countless more such interesting characters existing in this genre, watching anime become even more exciting.
1. Beerus (Dragon Ball Super)
Beerus is an incredibly powerful god in Dragon Ball Super’s multi-verse. As the seventh of twelve gods of destruction, he commands immense power and serves as a major antagonist to Goku. However, Beerus is not just your standard evil villain – his backstory is interesting, as he has lived for millions of years before Goku’s birth! During this time, Beerus has seen many things and experienced much of what the universe has to offer. He faces off against fresh and energetic opponents like Goku with years of knowledge from ancient civilizations and creatures that have lived since long before Goku was even born! Beerus’ feline-like appearance does nothing to detract from his overwhelming power, making him a formidable foe for any challengers who dare face him!
2. Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto (Bleach)
If you know anything about anime, then you certainly have heard of Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto. As the former Captain of Team 1 and the leader of Gotei 13 in Soul Society, he is one of the oldest and most revered Shinigami ever. His influence spans over two millenniums, learned from years of battle experience and wisdom that only comes with such a long life. He has led by example, leading his forces into shining victories during wars; however, he is also known to be a fair teacher to young up and coming shinigami. It is no wonder this influential figure has become an idol among fans!
3. Tsukasa (Fly Me to The Moon)
In our lives, we are all born with a finite amount of time allotted to us. We grow old, experience life, and eventually pass away when our time is up. The story of Tsukasa the princess seems almost surreal given her circumstance to transcend this cycle and remain ageless for much longer than even the oldest of mortals. Instead of growing ever more meaningful with each passing year, Tsukasa’s journey has been one of isolation with no end in sight – although 14 centuries have passed before her eyes, her lack of ability to truly age makes every day seem like the same as the day before. Despite these difficulties, Tsukasa continues to live on and find strength in her seemingly endless existence.
4. Ajimu Najimi (Medaka Box)
Ajimu Najimi may look like an ordinary high school student, but don’t let her youthful appearance deceive you – she is eons older than anyone else on the planet. Witness to events that predate the dawn of time itself, Ajimu is a relic of existence spanning back to before the universe began. Her incredible longevity has been calculated at 3,402,193,822,311 years old – an age so vast it’s almost incomprehensible. To put it into perspective we’re talking about someone who was around before stars and galaxies even began their journey in formation. Truly an extraordinary individual unrivaled by any other living thing.
5. Kars (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Battle Tendency)
Kars is a part of the mysterious Pillar Men race, who have lived for an incredibly long time—100 thousand years in total. He created the stone mask that would eventually give the vampire Dio Brando his powers, triggering a series of events that shook the world and shaped many people’s destinies along the way. Each Pillar Man has their own individual strengths and weaknesses, but Kars is arguably one of the strongest amongst them—and even someone like Dio fell to his feet at one point. It’s unknown what type of power this ancient clan may have access to, or what further plans they may have for humanity. Whatever comes next in Kars’ saga may determine the fate of us all.
6. Ronnie Schiatto (Baccano)
Ronnie looked like any of his siblings: he was quiet, gentle, and had a love for animals. What set him apart, however, was that this seemingly normal child was in fact the source of the infamous elixir of immortality. Tales have circulated for thousands of years about Ronnie’s miraculous powers – he is living proof of an immortal creature that has been present since time immemorial. Even after all these generations, Ronnie still radiates with a supernatural aura that mesmerizes those who come into contact with him. His immense power and mysterious mystique bring an unparalleled level to the mythical world found in Baccano’s story.
7. Killy (BLAME)
Killy is a lone wanderer thrust into a world that doesn’t make sense. He treads through an expansive maze of cement and steel, battling unfathomable odds and the unknown. Nothing that Killy experiences is typical and he finds himself frequently in battle with hordes of robots of all shapes and sizes, as well as some unimaginably haunting monstrosities from the future. All this danger however serves one purpose; to uncover “Net Terminal Genes”. Little does Killy know though – what he is really looking for is himself. For, unbeknownst to Killy, he has lived on this Earth for thousands of years, his search for his past perhaps unending.
8. Senku (Dr. Stone)
At the beginning of Dr. Stone, humanity is turned to stone inexplicably; until nearly 4,000 years later when Senku and some others wake up. They arrived in a world extremely different from the one they left behind — creatures, plants, and cultures had evolved or died out. It was like opening an unexpected time capsule and living four millennia in the past. While Senku enjoys this new journey into discovering everything about his environment again, he strives to get back to the future as soon as possible so that he can bring his knowledge back to help re-establish civilization with modern technology. However, other characters have stayed in the ancient era for longer periods, who had no difficulty adjusting to their new lifestyle. All this goes on to show how people can learn and adapt quickly in different circumstances.
9. Kaguya Otsutsuki (Naruto)
Kaguya Otsutsuki is a mysterious character shrouded in mystery even to the extent of her age. Her birthdate is listed as August 15, but beyond that, there is no clear answer as to when she was born or how old she is now. What we do know however, is that she is an ancient being from outside Earth that had already lived for thousands of years prior to the major conflicts seen in the Naruto anime. This makes Kaguya truly timeless and one of the most fascinating characters in popular culture.
10. Meliodas (Nanatsu no Taizai)
Meliodas seems like an ordinary teen, but he is so much more. A sinner of indignation, he has been alive for over 3000 years and still looks exactly the same as 10 years ago – unchanged in height and even weight! It’s amazing that Meliodas appears to be this age despite, having knowledge beyond his apparent years and being around for centuries. No one can deny that he is truly a remarkable figure.
