Isekai anime is a beloved genre of anime that features characters being transported to another world or time period. It’s a popular plot element that is so common among anime fans, they may not even realize it has its own genre. While many of these shows focus on the light-hearted comedy of being a fish out of water, some others explore the darker aspects of society and human nature. In any case, all isekai anime feature incredibly strong protagonists who must prove themselves in order to survive. Let’s take a look at some of the strongest Isekai anime protagonists.
Characters in isekai anime frequently have superhuman abilities. They have spread to the point where it now comes as a real surprise when a show’s main character cannot wipe out an army with the flick of their wrist. Although they will face some fierce competition, Winter 2023’s strongest isekai protagonists may rank among anime’s most formidable personalities after the season.
1- Touya Mochizuki – In Another World With My Smartphone
The title of this anime best captures Touya’s least exceptional quality. His god-crafted body, affinity for all magic types, and unrivalled ability to charm every waifu in the world far outweigh his smartphone, which he can use to take pictures and access the internet.
Another World With My Smartphone’s first season introduces Touya as a strong character, but the anime has yet to explore the character’s potential from the light novel.
2- Azusa Aizawa – I’ve Been Killing Slimes For 300 Years And Maxed Out My Level
A former workaholic employee named Azusa Aizawa was resurrected as a witch in a fantastical realm after eventually passing away from her overwork. She kills slimes for a few hundred years to live as stress-free as possible, only to realize when trouble comes knocking that she has grown too powerful for her benefit.
Azusa is drawn into adventures with dragons, slime spirits, and other creatures in this fantastical world once her absurdly high level is found. Her life is only tranquil for a short time.
3- Rimuru Tempest – That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime
One of the sillier isekai anime programs is That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime; even the program’s name is absurd. However, the show is excellent and functions as a brilliant genre parody.
After being murdered, a regular guy from Japan finds himself trapped in an odd fantasy realm, with one significant difference: he is now a slime. However, Rimuru is not a one-hit-kill slime. He is more dangerous than he appears to be since he can replicate the appearance and abilities of enemies. It’s a unique approach to the genre and well worth watching.
4- Ainz Ooal Gown – Overlord
Most gamers have dreamed of taking control of their RPG player’s body at some point, but the isekai anime Overlord makes it possible.
An overpowered guild leader discovers that life is different when you have reached the highest level after becoming pulled into his favourite online role-playing game. Being the game’s most vital player might occasionally be somewhat monotonous.
5- Sadao Maou – The Devil Is A Part-Timer!
Even Satan can occasionally be included in the cast of isekai protagonists; he is not always some businessman or high school student. The Demon Lord will need to find employment after he is released from his refuge and placed in society.
Nobody misses the irony of Satan working at a fast-food restaurant, but that doesn’t mean he has forgotten all his tricks. He has only become wiser and more intelligent due to his journey into human life. Satan can no longer instantly release all of his strength due to the neutering of his power.
6- Kirigaya Kazuto – Sword Art Online
Kirigaya Kazuto from Sword Art Online is convoluted. Kirito is less potent than some of the other prominent characters. He has some of the most powerful fighting skills in each of the game worlds he travels to, but other characters can also acquire such skills. Kirito shouldn’t feel so unique.
However, Kirito is the archetype for the over-the-top isekai anime hero. The protagonist of SAO is virtually never in danger of being overpowered, and he frequently dispatches ostensibly formidable foes with ease. In the face of impenetrable plot armour, all the magic in the world is useless.
7- Tanya – The Saga Of Tanya The Evil
The Saga of Tanya the Evil, a story about reincarnation gone wrong, centres on a Japanese businessman who lacks trust in humanity and is murdered before being reborn as an orphan in an odd, war-torn industrial civilization.
Never one to back down from a fight, the newly given name Tanya climbs the military ranks to become powerful and take charge of her destiny. Tanya, a calculating guy who assumes the shape of a little girl, is another contender for the title of creepiest isekai anime protagonist of all time.
8- Kumoko – So I’m A Spider, So What?
It’s typical in isekai anime for the main character to begin the series as a punching bag. But a dungeon spider seems too aggressive even for this kind of anime.
When a magic spell struck her entire class, Kumoko, a high school student, was just minding her business. As a result, she and all her classmates were thrust into a fantastical world filled with villains and heroes. Given that she must constantly battle for her life, Kumoko is a tough cookie.
9- Mamako – Do You Love Your Mom And Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks?
When a character’s mother joins them, it’s one thing for them to be transported into a weird, fantastical realm; it’s quite another. This is the precise plot of the isekai anime series, which follows a woman and her son on their exploits in a stat-driven online game.
Mamako is undoubtedly a devoted and loving mother in the first place, but she is also a fierce fighter. She never thinks twice about risking her safety to protect others at her party.
10- Cid Kageno – The Eminence In Shadow
When Cid reawakens in a magical realm, he fulfils his dream of being the shadow that defends society. Cid has an army of solid fighters at his disposal because he’s the unintentional leader of Shadow Garden, and most of them appear to know exactly what he wants from them.
Although it is appreciated, Cid can easily outnumber opponents on his own. The main character is a master of magic and swordplay, giving him access to nearly nuclear-level strikes that may destroy entire towns. Cid is ruthless, which is more vital. Thus he only holds back in combat for his fun.
11- Shiroe – Log Horizon
Another video game isekai anime that forces players to abide by the rules of the game to survive is Log Horizon. Shiroe used to be a shy student who spent more time playing his favourite MMORPG than studying, but now he lives there.
Shiroe is robust thanks to his years of practice, especially with magic. He establishes and oversees the Log Horizon Guild to bring order back into the gaming world using his extensive knowledge.
12- Inuyasha – Inuyasha
Inuyasha, one of the most well-known instances of Isekai anime, is a beloved animation that many anime fans discovered for the first time in the early 2000s. The main character of the series, Inuyasha, is a young girl who magically transferred from contemporary Tokyo to feudal Japan’s Sengoku era. There, she meets a variety of unusual characters.
Inuyasha, a half-demon, half-human hybrid, is skilled at eliminating opponents with the help of his demon strength and agility. He is prone to letting his demon blood take over his human side. Therefore he often needs to recognize his power.
13- Sora And Shiro – No Game No Life
These step-siblings, who are, without a doubt, two of the most intelligent anime characters, are unstoppable as a team because of their excellent, calculated reasoning. The two are suddenly thrust into a bizarre, surreal world where gambling and games control every aspect.
No Game No Life is a delightful animation, but ultimately, the characters Sora and Shiro keep the program so attractive.
14- Diablo – How Not To Summon A Demon Lord
Takuma, an introvert who spent all of his free time playing the role-playing game Cross Reverie, maxed out his character, and when he was teleported into the game’s universe as his avatar, he realized it was time well spent. Since he belongs to the Sorcerer class, Diablo has few rivals regarding magic, and most of his foes who try to challenge him are put to shame. The Demon Lord can also compete in melee combat, though not quite as effectively.
Even though Diablo has excessive power, his poor social skills make his life for him more complicated than it needs to be. The anime’s first season also greatly favours comedy, frequently drawing attention to Takuma’s flaws.
15- Seiya Ryuuguuin – Cautious Hero – The Hero Is Overpowered But Overly Cautious
Seiya is essentially superior in every RPG category, barring one—his suspicions—as the anime’s title would imply. Despite his incredible strength and expertise, Seiya doesn’t seem to have any trust in anything or anyone. The Hero Is Overpowered But Overly Cautious makes some great comedic uses of Seiya’s fear and some intriguing services of his protaganist skills.
16- Subaru Natsuki – Re:Zero – Starting Life In Another World
Subaru is a temperamental canine who resists interacting with people in the real world. Of course, everything changes when he finds himself in a magical world on his way back from the store.
When Subaru passes away, he can briefly travel through time (returning to a previous checkpoint). Although the power may not seem as action-oriented as some other isekai protagonists, it is more valuable than viewers might initially think. The protagonist suffers a mental toll as a result of these deaths. Therefore it does have many flaws.
17- Kazuma Sato – KonoSuba: God’s Blessing On This Wonderful World!
The isekai genre is based on a classic instance of the recluse embarking on an adventure in a foreign land. When thrown into an RPG universe, Kazuma avoids being a mere pawn by not selecting a starting class. This allows him to acquire and use skills that are otherwise only available to members of their respective categories.
Kazuma proves to be rather powerful, but this is primarily demonstrated in the movie, not the TV series.
